About Ewan
With 14 years of experience as a piano instructor, I am deeply committed to fostering musical growth in students of all ages and skill levels. My passion for music began at a young age, and it has been a driving force throughout my career. Over the years, I have refined my teaching methods to create a nurturing and stimulating learning environment that helps students discover and develop their musical talents.
My educational journey includes extensive training in classical piano, music theory, jazz improvisation, and composition. This diverse background allows me to offer a comprehensive curriculum tailored to the individual needs of each student. I believe that a strong foundation in music theory is essential for any musician, as it provides the tools necessary to understand and appreciate the complexity of music. My lessons seamlessly blend theoretical concepts with practical application, ensuring that students gain a well-rounded understanding of the subject.
Creativity and personal expression are central to my teaching philosophy. I encourage students to explore jazz improvisation, which enhances their technical abilities and fosters their ability to express themselves musically. My improvisation lessons are designed to be both enjoyable and challenging, giving students the confidence to experiment and develop their unique musical voices. This approach not only broadens their musical horizons but also makes the learning process more engaging and dynamic.
In addition to performance skills, I place a strong emphasis on composition. Guiding students through the process of creating their own music helps them build a deeper connection with their instrument and nurtures their creative instincts. My composition lessons cover essential elements such as melody, harmony, rhythm, and form, providing students with the knowledge and skills to craft their own pieces. By integrating classical training with elements of jazz and composition, my teaching approach offers a holistic and enriching musical education. I am dedicated to inspiring my students and helping them achieve their musical goals, whether they aspire to perform professionally or simply enjoy the lifelong benefits of playing the piano.

Learning to play the piano can be a profoundly rewarding experience, and my lessons are designed to make that journey as enriching and enjoyable as possible. With 14 years of teaching experience, I offer personalized lessons that cater to students of all ages and skill levels. Each session is customized to meet the unique needs and goals of the student, ensuring a learning path that is both effective and inspiring. From the first notes to advanced compositions, my approach is to make piano learning a joyful and motivating process.
A cornerstone of my teaching is a strong foundation in music theory. Understanding the theory behind the music is crucial for developing well-rounded musicianship. My lessons cover key aspects of music theory, including scales, chords, and harmonic structures, which are essential for any pianist. By grasping these concepts, students are able to play more confidently and with a deeper understanding of the music they perform. This theoretical knowledge is seamlessly integrated into practical exercises and pieces, making learning both comprehensive and accessible.
Jazz improvisation is another exciting aspect of my lessons. Improvisation encourages students to explore their creativity and develop their own musical voice. Through structured exercises and improvisational techniques, I guide students in discovering the joy of spontaneous music-making. This not only enhances their technical skills but also boosts their confidence and expressiveness. Jazz improvisation helps students think outside the box and apply their theoretical knowledge in new and innovative ways.
Composition is a vital part of my teaching philosophy. Writing their own music allows students to engage with the piano on a deeper level and express their personal artistic vision. My lessons on composition cover the essentials of melody, harmony, rhythm, and form, providing students with the tools they need to create original pieces. By encouraging students to compose, I help them develop a unique musical identity and a lasting appreciation for the creative process. My piano lessons offer a holistic approach to music education, combining theory, improvisation, and composition to elevate both skills and creativity.
