About Mariam

My name is Mariam. I am a 25 year old participation and development officer working at a human rights charity. Throughout my academic and professional career, I have witnessed the degree to which communication matters. Choosing the right words, using accessible language, and painting a story with your choices can make a huge difference wherever you go.

I have a BA and MSc in International Relations, and got through my degrees by teaching. I taught English as a second language for newly arrived asylum seekers and refugees for 3 years. I also taught academic materials to younger cohorts as an academic tutor. I love writing, and breaking down barriers by giving people the tools to use their voice in an engaging way. I am bilingual so I understand the nuances of learning a new language, and the importance of connecting dots between what you know and what you want to know. I am happy to give you more information about myself, should you ask!

About the lesson

My approach to tutoring is that everybody has a different way of interacting with learning materials. Therefore, it is important for tutors to be adaptable and find a way to engage their students. I am able to do this through interactive learning sessions catered to the needs of my students.

- Lessons are typically 60 minutes long, although if you need a longer or shorter session we can discuss further.
- I have 4 years experience teaching English in various settings to various levels; ranging from A1 to C2 and higher.
- My lessons can be adapted to support individuals of all ages, although my expertise lies in teaching teenagers and adults.

Please don't hesitate to get in touch with me if you have further questions.

Mariam is a fantastic tutor! She is patient, understanding and a very knowledgeable teacher. We met once a week online and she helped me talk through different subjects. With her help I was able to dramatically improve my English and secure work in the UK. Mariam was recommended to me by a friend and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her to anyone else looking to improve their English!
