About Tess
I am an MSc Chemistry tutor with over 4 years of experience teaching students at school and university levels. My passion lies in helping students understand the principles of green chemistry and sustainable synthesis. I focus on making chemistry both exciting and responsible. In my lessons, I emphasise concepts like atom economy, catalysis, solvent-free reactions, and waste reduction strategies. My teaching approach in chemistry is relaxed, clear, and application-focused. I aim to make complex concepts simple and directly relevant to real-life situations. I focus on both theory and practical skills, especially in analytical chemistry, spectroscopy (NMR, IR, UV-Vis), chromatography, and quantitative analysis techniques. Lessons are designed to connect classroom knowledge to real laboratory work. I use instrumental analysis to give students hands-on understanding of methods they encounter in labs. This includes explaining equipment operation, data interpretation, and troubleshooting techniques. I also include examples and case studies to strengthen practical knowledge. I work closely with students to help them excel, ensuring they not only understand concepts but also apply them effectively. Whether it’s genetics, microbiology, or laboratory techniques, I focus on making chemistry relevant to their work. My approach builds confidence and encourages curiosity. Students gain a strong foundation in both practical and theoretical chemistry. I guide them in exam preparation, assignments, and improving lab skills. My goal is to make learning chemistry engaging, useful, and rewarding.
