About Calen
I am a Chemistry tutor with over four years of teaching experience and an MSc in Organic Chemistry. My background allows me to simplify complex chemical concepts and make them practical and engaging. I integrate forensic chemistry and toxicology into my lessons to show how chemistry plays a vital role in crime investigation.
I teach students how chemical principles are used to analyse evidence accurately and scientifically. We explore drug analysis, trace evidence examination, and analytical techniques used to detect poisons. I guide learners through chromatography, spectroscopy, and laboratory methods commonly applied in forensic laboratories. Understanding how to interpret forensic data is a key focus in my sessions.
I work closely with students who aim to build careers in forensic science, law, and public safety. My lessons connect theory with real investigative applications. I encourage critical thinking, accuracy, and ethical responsibility in chemical analysis. My teaching approach in Chemistry is systematic, clear, and easy to follow. I break down complex organic structures into simple, understandable steps. Organic chemistry becomes easier when we carefully study nomenclature, functional groups, reaction mechanisms, and isomerism. I also connect these topics with physical chemistry, analytical chemistry, biochemistry, and polymer chemistry to build wider understanding.
I focus strongly on concepts before moving to problem-solving. We practise naming compounds, identifying functional groups, and predicting reaction pathways with confidence. Step by step, we explore stereochemistry, resonance, hydrocarbons, aromatic compounds, and organic synthesis strategies. Small details matter, and I make sure they are never ignored.
Learners interested in environmental science and marine biology also benefit from understanding carbon chemistry in natural systems. I relate organic compounds to ecosystems, pollutants, and biochemical cycles. Continuous feedback and regular assessments help improve accuracy and clarity. With consistent guidance and structured practice, strong foundations are built for mastering the world of carbon compounds and excelling in advanced organic synthesis.
