About Lakshya
I'm Lakshya, a Computer Science student at Monash University, currently in my first year and working through second-year math units alongside my degree. I moved to Melbourne to study and I'm based near the Clayton campus.
I want to teach because I remember being on the other side of it fairly recently. Year 9 math isn't distant history for me, I can still remember which topics made no sense the first time and what finally made them click, and I think that's more useful at this level than being decades removed from the material.
I spent two years helping run a technology club at my school, where most of my time went on explaining new concepts to students who'd never seen them before. That's where I found out I actually enjoy the explaining part, and it's why I'm here rather than looking for ordinary casual work.

I'm a Computer Science student at Monash University, currently working through second-year maths units. I teach maths to students in Years 7 to 10, either online or in person around Clayton.
My approach is to work from the student's own material, their textbook, their worksheet, whatever topic went wrong that week, rather than running a fixed program. I'll usually ask a student to talk me through how they'd start a problem before I explain anything, because wherever they hesitate is normally the actual gap. Once that's clear we work through similar problems together until they can do one unaided, and I'd rather spend a whole lesson on one idea that finally lands than rush through five that don't.
Lessons run for an hour, which suits most students at this level. I'm happy to do 90 minutes in the lead-up to a test.
Before university I studied A Level Pure Maths, including Statistics, and I spent two years helping run a technology club at my school, where most of what I did was explaining things to students meeting them for the first time.

I've got three kids and a busy house, so when I say Lakshya made tutoring easy, that means something. What I liked most was how structured every session was, there was always a plan, not just whatever homework was due that week.
He explains concepts in plain language first, then shows how they actually show up in exam questions. My daughter said he was the first person who made calculus make sense to her. Her results improved steadily, but the real sign was her bringing her own questions to sessions instead of waiting to get stuck.
Any family thinking about Lakshya for Methods or Specialist should just book him.
— SofiaCan't recommend Lakshya enough
My son started with Lakshya halfway through Year 12, stressed and struggling with Methods. A few sessions in, something clicked. He actually started looking forward to their sessions, which honestly surprised me.
Lakshya knows the VCE syllabus really well and always seemed to know exactly what to focus on before SACs and exams. But what really made the difference was how patient he was. He never rushed my son or made him feel bad for not getting something straight away, he just kept explaining it a different way until it made sense.
By the end of the year his grades had gone up a lot, and he walked into his final exam way more confident than I expected. Lakshya didn't just help him pass, he helped him actually understand maths for the first time in ages.
If your child needs a tutor who actually cares and puts in the effort, book Lakshya. We're really glad we found him.View more recommendations
