Hello! My name is Thomas, and I’m here to help you reach your academic goals in biology and the life sciences. I hold an MSc in Molecular Neuroscience and a BSc in Biological Sciences, equipping me with a deep understanding of biological concepts, from cellular structures to complex neural processes. My approach to tutoring is centred on making complex concepts clear and engaging by adapting lessons to each student’s learning style and pace. Although I am new to tutoring, my academic background in Molecular Neuroscience and Biological Sciences has given me a strong grasp of scientific principles, which I am eager to share with students to help them achieve their learning goals.
Techniques and Teaching Methodology:
I would start each session by assessing the student’s current understanding to identify areas for improvement. My teaching method emphasises breaking down complex topics into manageable parts, using visuals like diagrams and flowcharts to make abstract ideas more tangible. I also encourage active problem-solving and ask guiding questions to develop the student’s critical thinking skills, making the sessions more interactive and enjoyable. To help reinforce learning, I would use techniques like spaced repetition and active recall to help students retain key concepts and vocabulary.
Typical Lesson Length:
A typical lesson would last about 60 minutes, allowing enough time to introduce new concepts, engage in exercises, and review the material without overwhelming the student. For challenging topics, sessions could extend to 90 minutes to ensure in-depth understanding.
Qualifications:
While I am new to tutoring, I hold an MSc in Molecular Neuroscience and a BSc in Biological Sciences, which gives me a strong foundation in the sciences that enables me to explain complex topics clearly and confidently. My academic experience has taught me effective study and learning strategies, which I would incorporate into tutoring sessions.
Target Audience:
I aim to work with high school and early university students, particularly those studying biology or related sciences, generally ranging from ages 16 to 21. Whether students are preparing for exams or seeking a deeper understanding of scientific concepts, I am prepared to adapt my approach to meet their individual needs.
