About Marianne
My teaching career began in the classroom where I taught 4th & 6th grade in the parochial school system. Eager to be in the public sector, I then got into educational technology after a brief stint in the corporate world. I have been in ed tech ever since the late 90's. For the past 14 years, I added the role of librarian to my teaching work. I love being a librarian and talking about books, authors, genres, plot lines, etc. You could probably guess that I read a lot.
I'm interested in doing part-time tutoring work because I have two children who are in college. I'm a single mother trying to help them graduate without enormous debt. It's a challenge! I work full-time in an urban middle school as a librarian and technology specialist. I enjoy my job(s) on most days.

Teaching is about relationships and building trust. I've taught elementary and middle school aged students while also training staff with tech tools (which constantly change over time!) I enjoy people and being a strong communicator. I love language, words, reading, and writing.
A typical lesson isn't typical at all. It depends on the age of the student, their interests, learning style and goals. Even after two decades in the world of education, I have not reused a lesson plan because my students have changed each year. I enjoy helping others become more confident in their skills and hopefully in their love of learning.
