About Luan
Hello, I'm Luan (lu-anne)! I am currently an undergraduate freshmen at the University of California, Berkeley, double majoring in Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science/Engineering.
I was previously a professionally trained instructor at Kumon and taught K-12 math to students of all ages. During my time there, I loved engaging with students, helping them make their Kumon experience exciting and something they could look forward to. This is something I hope to encourage in students. As a current student, I understand how frustrating and draining online classes/tutoring can be and will try my best to encourage learning while creating a positive and helpful environment.
I am also currently planning on pursuing a teaching credential along with my current majors. Berkeley offers several classes (which I am taking/have taken) on how to be an effective, thought- provoking teacher. I reflect the skills taught during these classes in my own teaching and will cater my teaching style to each student’s specific needs.
I have scored a perfect 800 on the SAT Math section, a perfect 800 on the SAT Math 2 Subject Test, and have consistently received an A in math as well as physics during high school. I have thorough experience teaching middle school/high school algebra. I have taken 2 years of high school physics, scored a 5 on the AP Physics C test, and am enrolled in several physics classes at UC Berkeley. I believe my teaching strengths lie in high school Algebra, Algebra 2, SAT Math, and Physics (up to AP).

I like to structure my lesson plans around the student- whatever they want to do (go over homework, preview future work, etc) is what I like to go with. Using physical hands on work as well (i.e. asking the student to solve problems along with me) has also proven to be an effective method, and one I enjoy using.
