About Amelia
My name is Amelia Williams, I am a sophomore at the University of Tennessee studying Microbiology. I grew up in a small town outside of the Twin Cities in Minnesota, and after graduating high school, I knew I wanted to experience something new. Moving to Tennessee, a state I had never been to before, was an exciting challenge, and I embraced the opportunity to start fresh at college. As a dedicated and hardworking student with a deep passion for biology, I believe it’s essential for everyone to have an understanding of the subject. I find fulfillment in helping others grasp concepts that I’m passionate about, and I strive to make learning an enjoyable and empowering experience. I understand that school can be overwhelming, especially for students in their developmental years who are balancing numerous responsibilities. My goal as a tutor is to alleviate some of that stress by providing personalized support and fostering confidence in my students.

I teach by first asking what it is that is hard for the student to understand, and building a lesson plan around that. A typical lesson starts with reviewing material that the student knows, or that we have gone over before and then slowly adding new material making sure the student understands. Lessons can include educational games such as kahoots or print-out diagrams that are to be filled out. I am a student, so I understand that a person has more on their mind than just school. I know how stressful it can be to not understand a subject, that is why I want to be a tutor. My lessons are for high school and middle school aged kids, or undergraduate students who need help with the foundation of their knowledge.
