About Nicolas
I took A-levels in math, further math, physics, chemistry, biology, and Greek and I now study medicine. I sat the IMAT recently as well.
My teaching experience is informal. At school I helped at the math club, answering classmates’ questions when the teacher was busy. I also chaired debates at Model United Nations and European Youth Parliament sessions and held organizing roles at both. Keeping a room of nervous people moving turns out to be useful practice!
What I commit to: a reply as soon as possible - never longer than a twelve-hour wait; proper notice if a lesson has to move; and a short written note after each lesson covering what we did and what needs practice.
I teach in English, and in Greek if that suits the student better.
I am young and new to paid tutoring. The upside is that I sat these exams recently, so I know which topics actually cause trouble, and I prepare thoroughly for every lesson.

How I teach. I don’t march through a syllabus. Lessons are built around what you can’t do yet, because the topic a student thinks is the problem is usually two steps downstream of the real gap. You hold the pen throughout — I’d rather sit through ninety seconds of silence while you work than hand you the answer.
One-off lessons. Tell me your weak points when you book and I’ll come prepared. We start with a proper explanation of the material, with room to interrupt me at any point — questions during the explanation are the whole value of one-to-one. Then we work through problem questions together. You’ll leave with a set of questions to attempt on your own, which I’ll mark and send back with written feedback.
Regular lessons. These run differently. The first session is diagnostic — I set problems and watch where things break, then we agree on a plan. Every lesson after that opens with a short recall check on earlier material, because the topic you nailed three weeks ago is the one that fails in the exam. New material, then problems, then marked homework between sessions. As exams approach we switch to timed papers and mark-scheme reading, since knowing what earns marks is a separate skill from knowing the physics. I track the mistakes that recur — they’re almost always three or four habits, not thirty topics.
Any exam, any board. If you’re sitting something I haven’t taught before, tell me which exam and which specification and I’ll go and learn its structure, its question styles and its marking before we start, then build a lesson plan aimed at that paper specifically. A generic math lesson and a lesson aimed at a particular exam are not the same thing, and only one of them raises your grade.
IMAT preparation. I sat the IMAT and was admitted to every university I applied to, so I can take you through it end to end: the science and math content, the logical reasoning that catches out strong science students, question selection under time pressure, and how to revise for it rather than around it. I know which parts of the paper are worth fighting for and which are worth leaving.
What sets me apart. Most tutors leave their subject behind. I still work through university-level math in my own time and use chemistry and biology daily on my degree, so I can tell you why a topic exists rather than just how to answer question 4b.
