About Isha

I am a Grammar school student who has just completed my A-levels. I have been tutoring for the 11 plus for 5 years and am prepared to teach both privately and in groups. I can teach maths, English, non-verbal and verbal reasoning as well as science. I have only a few spaces left due to the high demand for lessons but I am happy to squeeze people in. I have achieved a grade 9 (A*) in my English GCSE and I have just completed my A-level in English literature.

During the lesson, I go through past papers, workbook questions and questions of my own. At the end of the lesson I provide students with homework that we will go through at the start of the next lesson. This will ensure they remember everything they have learnt in class.

  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I used to find it really difficult to learn my subjects like my classmates and I worked really hard to find the revision methods that worked for me. Once I finally found methods that worked for me my grades went from a predicted 5 (low b) to the highest grade possible - a 9 (A*). This is when I decided that I wanted to help other students find their best way of learning quicker and easier than what I had to go through.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I teach Biology, Chemistry, Maths, and English up to GCSE level and I love all these subjects. Despite getting grade 9 in other subjects, I have chosen to only teach those that I have a passion for. I hope my students understand that they can talk to me about anything that isn't just subject-related, I like to create a safe space for my students. I am open about why I love the subjects I teach and I hope to pass on the passion that I have to my students!
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

I never was able to afford a private tutor which is why I pride myself on offering more affordable tutoring for people who can't afford my private classes. However, during my GCSEs, I had amazing biology and history teachers that brought the lessons to life which is exactly what I hope to do in my lessons. I hope my students never feel bored in my lessons and always look forward to the next time that I teach them.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

I believe a good tutor should always be there for their students even outside of the lessons which is why all my students and their parents know that they can contact me whenever they need to. I also belive a tutor should be able to recognise when a student is not working well with the current teaching method and be happy to change to a method that bests suits them. I am passionate to help your child succeed even if it means not teaching them in the same way I teach another student.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

At school, I had a teacher once tell me that if I kept getting distracted as I did, I would never get anywhere in my life and I was only 7 when she told me this, She then moved me down from the highest group to a lower group because I didn't concentrate hard enough despite my perfect grades. Within a few months, I had been moved back to the highest group but was being taught by a teacher who was a lot more compassionate. I know not all students are going to sit there in silence and as children, they are bound to get fidgety and distracted which is exactly why I want to help them get better academically. No one deserves to tell them that they aren't good enough.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

Now I am learning all my subjects at a level standard in a lot more detail and as a student, I understand learning new concepts and ideas is hard but this is exactly why I want to help my students understand it so much better.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

I love teaching so much. I have been teaching academically for over 3 years but recently I set up a second business teaching my other passion - drama! When I am teaching children how to develop their skills, I am in my happy place which is exactly why I do what I do.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering this interview questions :-P) ?

I like to think that I always go the extra mile with my students - making sure they are happy with their work and happy with their mental health both in lessons and out. I have had students discuss with me their pre-exam nerves that they can't even tell their parents and as a student who strives for success in my exams, I understand exactly how they feel.
