About Semhar
For me, teaching goes beyond covering the syllabus; it’s about helping students genuinely connect with what they're learning and build confidence in their abilities. I’m currently a PhD student in medical computational engineering, with a background in medical engineering. My academic path has been shaped by a real love for the field, earning me a first-class degree and several academic achievement awards. I began tutoring at 15, motivated by a life-long love of mathematics. Since then, I’ve worked with a wide range of students across different age groups and academic levels. This has included preparing students for GCSE exams across major exam boards (AQA, Edexcel, OCR), supporting entrance to selective schools, and helping with university applications. My approach is always student-focused. I take time to understand how each student learns best and adapt lessons to suit their thinking. Whether it’s helping a student jump two grade levels, tackle a challenging topic, or feel more confident in class, I aim to make learning feel personal and achievable. My experience as a university teaching assistant has also shaped how I teach — particularly the value of personalised support and breaking down complex ideas into clear, manageable steps. My goal is to create a supportive, engaging environment where students stay motivated, enjoy learning, and continue to grow even after our sessions end.

I offer personalised Maths and Science lessons for KS2, KS3, and Maths lessons for GCSE students, tailoring my teaching style to each child’s pace and needs. My lessons are interactive and focused on building confidence and deep understanding. Typically, sessions last 60 minutes, but I am flexible to extend lessons up to 2 hours based on individual preferences and needs. With over five years of tutoring experience and as a university teaching assistant, I bring both practical expertise and academic insight to my lessons. I design each session around the student’s strengths, challenges, and goals. Together, we develop a personalised revision plan that targets key areas for improvement, including exam techniques and core concepts. I take a patient and supportive approach, helping students develop problem-solving skills while boosting their confidence. Having personally completed GCSE, A-Level, and university exams, I understand the pressures students face and can relate to their challenges. When students struggle with difficult concepts, I break them down into clear, manageable steps to ensure better understanding and retention. To reinforce learning, I provide additional practice tasks along with detailed feedback, helping students track their progress and focus their efforts effectively. I also offer English conversation classes for adults looking to improve fluency in a relaxed and friendly online environment.
