About Tawanda
I am a chemical engineering graduate with a strong passion for teaching and developing people. My students have ranged from struggling with content, to those aiming for specific marks with specific goals in mind. One of my best students has been a student who struggled to pass a 2nd year University Chemistry course for two years, and after working with her she achieved a lower 2nd class pass.
I am a professional tutor and engineer with a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Cape Town, backed by over 20 years of dedicated teaching experience. My passion for people development has been a constant thread throughout my life: starting in high school where I served as a night school teacher, continuing through university where I worked as an official tutor and helped establish a voluntary peer-tutoring program for engineering students, and remaining a core part of my professional work today.
Over the past decade, I have helped hundreds of high schoolers, university undergraduates, and prospective MBA candidates turn challenging quantitative subjects into their greatest academic strengths.

About My Tutoring & Approach
1. Methodology & What Makes My Teaching Unique
I approach teaching through a first-principles engineering lens—focusing on nurturing deep conceptual understanding. Having earned both my M.Sc. and B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering, I teach students practical methodologies to dissect complex problems, identify and understand core principles, and build clear, step-by-step analytical solutions.
My unique edge comes from looking beyond exam preparation: I equip students with transferable critical-thinking techniques, time-management strategies, and the confidence to tackle unfamiliar, high-level questions independently.
2. Languages of Instruction
• All lessons, study materials, and technical explanations are delivered in English.
3. Every lesson is structured, interactive, and tailored to the individual student. A typical 1-hour session covers:
• Concept Review (10–15 mins): Reviewing core theory, addressing tricky concepts, and clarifying misunderstandings using intuitive visual or real-world analogies.
• Guided Problem-Solving (15–20 mins): Working together through targeted classwork, problem sets, homework, past papers, or exam-style problems.
• Independent Application (20–30 mins): The student takes the lead on fresh problems to demonstrate understanding, and I provide guidance and support as needed.
• Actionable Takeaways: Ending with concise summary points and targeted practice questions to solidify learning before the next session.
4. My lessons are specially designed for learners across three primary tiers:
• High School Students (Matric / IGCSE / AS & A-Levels): Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry—focusing on grade improvement, exam preparation, and past-paper strategies.
• University Undergraduate Students: Engineering, Applied Sciences, and Commerce students needing support in higher-level Mathematics (Calculus, Linear Algebra), Physics, Chemistry, and core Engineering modules.
• GMAT Candidates: Professionals and graduate applicants preparing for the GMAT Quantitative section, focusing on speed, data sufficiency strategies, advanced problem-solving, and score optimization.
