About Alex
My name is Alex Davies, I am 19 and currently on a gap year, after which I plan to study Maths at university in 2026. I have achieved: A*A*A* at A level in Maths, Physics and History; and 10 A*s at GCSE. I am studying also Further Maths for which I have been predicted A*. Outside of Maths I am interested in: philosophy, achieving a commendation for an essay in the 2024 John Locke Essay Competition, and I also Compete in Spartan Obstacle Course races having most recently raced the 21k ‘Beast’.

I am passionate about Maths and in teaching I wish not only to confer success in practice but also a greater depth of understanding. Having achieved A*A*A* at A level and due my continuing study of Further Maths, I am in a unique position: I have a firm grasp of the course but yet I am still undertaking active study. Therefore, I feel this gives me the ability to teach with informed empathy. This means I am able to understand fully the difficulties my students face and tailor my lessons according to this. It also means I understand those methods which are most effective. Maths does require work, but it must be done intelligently, therefore my lessons are focused on increasing my students’ understanding of that area and ironing out any weak points, but my most successful students are those who supplement this with independent work outside of the tutorial. Recognising the value of this I always encourage my students to message me with any problems that they are struggling with or issues they have, between tutorials. I aim to show Maths is fundamentally creative and yet beautiful, and I look forward to meeting any students who wish to learn it with me.

Perfect! Alex is great, he is teaching my daughter who is in Year 8 and is really bringing the topics to life for her. He's a great teacher and it's ideal for her to have a tutor whose explanations are clear and that she can relate to.

Alex is able to make maths and science a little more enjoyable and fun to my teenage daughter. He is able to make difficult maths and science concepts a little easier to understand. My daughter explained to me chemical bonding in terms of tick tok and now she understands it! Alex has a way of making her understand and remember in innovative ways. A friendly and enthusiastic tutor, I have no hesitation in recommending Alex.
