About Alex
I am a PhD student in an experimental quantum physics lab, I took a roundabout route to this career originally starting in abstract Maths, as a result I hope I can offer a little insight into academia, and where particular routes of study might take you. When I was starting out I didn't know much about routes to higher education or universities and I think a view of how it all works is so helpful! I hold a Master's in mathematics from Durham University, and a Master's in Quantum Physics from UCL and I am happy to help with either discipline.
I've taught GCSE and A level students in the past and currently tutor classes of undergraduates at Sussex University. I've been teaching consistently in one form or another since 2015.

My style is informal and I'm flexible in my approach. I'd expect the first meeting to be when we figure out exactly how the sessions would be tailored, but generally I'd be presenting a quick overview of the central ideas we're going to focus on then using the bulk of our time to work through some interesting problems together, with digressions every time we reach a sticking point. I find that this approach driven by exploring specific questions you have at the time is more effective than following a rigid lesson plan.
