About Greg – Secondary Mathematics & AP Calculus Tutor
My approach to tutoring focuses on helping students develop a clear understanding of mathematical concepts while building the confidence needed to solve problems independently. Many students struggle in mathematics because the reasoning behind the formulas and procedures is not fully explained. My goal is to break down complex ideas into manageable steps so students understand both how and why mathematical methods work.
Teaching methodology and techniques
I use a structured and supportive approach that focuses on concept mastery and problem-solving skills. Instead of memorizing procedures, students learn to recognize patterns and apply logical reasoning to new problems. I guide students through examples step by step and encourage them to explain their thinking so that misunderstandings can be addressed early.
Whenever possible, I connect abstract mathematical ideas to visual explanations and practical examples. This helps students develop a deeper understanding and makes difficult topics more approachable.
Typical lesson structure
A typical lesson with Greg includes:
Reviewing previous material or questions from homework
Clarifying difficult concepts from the student’s classwork
Demonstrating key problem-solving strategies
Guided practice solving problems together
Independent practice to reinforce understanding
A short summary and tips for tackling similar problems
This structure helps students build both accuracy and confidence.
What sets Greg apart
What sets me apart as a tutor is patience, clarity, and the ability to explain difficult concepts in multiple ways. I understand that every student learns differently, so I adapt my explanations and pace to match each student’s needs. My focus is not only helping students succeed on assignments and tests but also helping them develop the analytical thinking skills that mathematics requires.
Who the lessons are for
My lessons are designed for secondary school students, including those studying algebra, advanced mathematics, and AP Calculus. I work with students who want to strengthen their fundamentals, improve their grades, or prepare for exams. Lessons are especially helpful for students who need personalized explanations and additional practice beyond what they receive in the classroom.
