I believe Mathematics becomes much easier when students understand why something works, not just how to get the answer. My tutoring is therefore focused on building confidence, deep understanding, problem-solving skills, and measurable improvement.
My teaching techniques and methodology
I begin by identifying the student's current level, learning gaps, strengths, and specific goals.
I explain difficult mathematical concepts in simple, clear, step-by-step language, using real-life examples and visual representations where appropriate.
I use a combination of guided practice, questioning, worked examples, problem-solving, retrieval practice, and exam-style questions.
I adapt lessons to the student's learning pace and needs rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach.
For examination students, I focus on exam techniques, command words, time management, common misconceptions, and mark-scheme strategies.
I regularly check understanding during lessons and use short assessments to track progress.
I encourage students to explain their reasoning, ask questions, make connections between topics, and become independent mathematical thinkers.
Typical Lesson Length
My standard lesson is 60 minutes, although I can adapt the lesson length depending on the student's age, level, attention span, and objectives.
A typical 60-minute lesson may include:
5–10 minutes: Review and retrieval practice
15–20 minutes: Explanation and demonstration of the new concept
20–25 minutes: Guided and independent practice
5–10 minutes: Assessment, feedback, and next steps
My Qualifications & Experience
I am an experienced Mathematics educator with nearly 20 years of teaching and educational leadership experience. I hold an MSc in Mathematics & Statistics and a BSc Ed in Mathematics, alongside professional teaching qualifications and certifications.
