I have over four years of teaching experience and enjoy teaching in both face-to-face and online settings. I am proficient in using modern online tools such as Zoom, Google Meet, and Superproof’s online teaching platform, which allows me to deliver smooth and effective virtual instruction alongside traditional classroom teaching.
My teaching approach focuses on active student engagement and problem-solving. I guide students step by step, encourage questions, and create a supportive and interactive learning environment. By integrating technology with personalized instruction, I aim to bridge the gap between in-person and online learning while giving students the individual attention they need to master complex concepts. My goal is to help students build confidence, develop strong analytical skills, and achieve lasting understanding and academic success.

Find out more about Muhammad

  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

My interest in mathematics began during my early school years when I realized how logical reasoning and numerical patterns could explain real-world phenomena. This fascination deepened throughout my academic journey, eventually leading me to pursue a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and later a master’s at Universitas Indonesia. I started private tutoring during my undergraduate years, initially helping classmates and juniors. Over time, it became a true passion—seeing students gain confidence and clarity in a subject many find intimidating motivates me every day.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less)

I teach mathematics at various levels, from arithmetic and algebra to statistics and applied problem-solving. I particularly enjoy discussing how mathematical concepts connect to real-life applications, for instance, how algebra underlies data models or how probability supports decision-making in daily life. I love topics that challenge students to think critically rather than memorize formulas. If there’s anything I enjoy less, it’s rote learning. I always encourage understanding the “why” behind every concept.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

Yes, my high school mathematics teacher played a significant role in shaping my passion for teaching. His patient explanations, enthusiasm, and ability to make complex ideas simple left a deep impression on me. Later, several professors at the university level inspired me to pursue both research and teaching, showing me that education can be a lifelong mission rather than just a profession.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

A good tutor should be patient, empathetic, and adaptable. Every student learns differently, so a tutor must listen carefully and adjust teaching methods accordingly. Strong communication skills and enthusiasm are equally important; they make learning engaging and accessible. Finally, consistency and genuine care for students’ progress make a lasting difference.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

During my undergraduate studies, I once tutored a student who consistently failed math exams despite putting in a lot of effort. I redesigned our sessions to focus on conceptual understanding rather than memorization. By the end of the semester, not only did he pass with good marks, but he also began helping his peers. That transformation reaffirmed my belief that with the right guidance and mindset, every student can excel in mathematics.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or are still facing in your subject?

One major challenge in teaching mathematics is breaking students’ fear of the subject. Many approach it with anxiety, assuming they “just aren’t good at math.” My challenge and also my mission is to change that mindset. Another ongoing challenge is keeping students engaged in online environments, but I overcome it by using interactive tools and real-world examples to make lessons lively and relatable.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

My primary passion lies in teaching and research. I see them as two sides of the same coin: teaching allows me to share knowledge, while research allows me to expand it. I’m currently pursuing research in artificial intelligence and data science, where mathematical principles play a fundamental role. Beyond academics, I enjoy mentoring students and helping them discover the joy of analytical thinking.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions)?

What makes me a Superprof is my dedication to student success and my ability to make mathematics enjoyable and meaningful. With three years of teaching experience both in-person and online, I create interactive, problem-solving–based learning environments. I’m deeply committed to helping students gain confidence and mastery, not just good grades. For me, being a Superprof means inspiring curiosity, encouraging critical thinking, and ensuring every student realizes their potential.
