I am a college mathematics instructor and high school teacher. In the course of two MSc programs, and 2 years of teaching high school, I covered logic and foundations as well as analysis, algebra and geometry with students of ages 15-25.

I avoid memorization and repetition, and stress understanding of concepts. I hate all mnemonics ("FOIL" and all that stuff) and I hate learning by rote. Usually we are told to simply "remember" how to "solve" things, but not to understand what the heck it is we are doing and why...
