About Kaylee
As a current international traveler who holds a bachelor's of science degree in biology and mathematics, I love to learn something new! I am always seeking out patterns. Thus, the first things my students will recognize through my lessons is the enthusiasm I get when the student starts to see the connections too. I am proud of my ability to explain concepts in many different ways, including visually, verbally, and hands-on. All of my lessons are built upon communication, meaning that whatever you need, I will make sure to provide.

As a previous high school tutor from the US, my 60-90 minute lessons are best for secondary students and beginner undergrads.
When tutoring math, I center my lessons on examples. This will include me first guiding the student through a couple of examples, writing down to the side each step and re-explaining where the student needs. From there, we will approach the next examples as a team, where I present the focus of each step and see if the student can complete it from there. Finally, once I see them getting all of the steps consistently, I will have them complete an example on their own.
I put a lot of emphasis on making sure every student is able to talk through the steps of each problem and can tell me why each step is necessary. I will also make sure to highlight any alternative ways to complete the problem, or any resources that could allow them to double-check their work.
When it comes to tutoring the sciences, I work through a multitude of levels of understanding. We will first review the key vocabulary together, making sure to move on once the student can explain what each word means. From there, we will draw out a concept map with memorable doodles to highlight the big picture of the main lesson. Then, I will review the connections between each word through the use of comparisons and differences, and how that adds to the concept map. To end the session, I will make a list of questions that target these definitions and connections for the student to try to answer. This will then produce them a study guide for them in the future.
