About Stephanie
My name is Stephanie Kurisunkal, I have a B. A Degree in Secondary Math Education, which means I am certified to teach math in middle/high school. I have many years of experience tutoring students one-on-one from middle school to college math(Developmental Math, Intro to Algebra, College Algebra, Pre-Caculus/Trig).
Ever since I was a kid, once I processed how to solve a math problem with some struggle and see someone else struggling, I have the need to immediately help. The joy I find in teaching comes from witnessing the "aha" moments when someone I'm helping finally understands concepts that once seemed confusing. The fact I struggled with math in the past, helps me pinpoint quickly what student is struggling with.
I am known as the fun/(a little perky) singing math teacher. I have been able to make fun of others that once hated math and build their confidence. I have been able to find different ways for students to understand math concepts if they can't understand the common way. I have been able to help students raise their math grades from F to A.
I encourage anyone I work with to answer questions, so I can provide feedback and address concerns/misconceptions.

When I tutor students, I enjoy making things simple by breaking down problems into smaller steps. I believe that practicing a lot helps them really get what they're learning. To make sure they've got the hang of it, I ask them to solve a problem multiple times, writing out the steps. This helps them remember how to do it and use the same approach for similar problems with different numbers. Also, I use colorful pens and making say funny sayings/sounds (sometimes sing) to keep things interesting while teaching!
