About Debra
I am the proud mother of two successful children, my son is an engineer/city planner and my daughter is a high school counselor/psychologist. I went to college in Alabama for six years, and I have always loved learning! I received a Master’s of Education degree so I could better assist my elementary students, After all, elementary school is the MOST important for children, because this is where you must build a strong skill foundation.
Our little family moved often due to my husband’s love of coal mining. We have lived in Pennsylvania, Germany, West Virginia, Colorado, Alabama, Utah, Nova Scotia, and Texas. We finally settled back in beautiful Colorado. However, we both retired in June of 2022.
My hobbies are painting, gardening, reading mysteries, kayaking, gardening, skiing, traveling, and cooking. Once I started an after school cooking class for children, and that as so much fun!
Well, My goal is to help You be successful in school. I do love teaching all elementary subjects, but my favorites are truly reading and writing.

Learning, practicing, and mastering a challenging task should not be considered “work.”
It is all about the initial approach taken by the teacher. Sparking an interest in a child’s mind and encouraging him/her to take a task head on with confidence can be a challenge. However, knowing the student and his/her interests along with strengths and weaknesses must be the starting point.
As the teacher, based on what I learn about the individual child, I then create engaging lessons to meet the child’s academic needs. These lessons must be challenging, yet exciting in order to reach the child’s academic goal. In order to master any skill, practice, practice, practice is required as practice makes permanent.
Additionally, open communication of all involved is necessary to ensure the child masters the skills. I look forward to helping children accomplish and overcome challenges in their learning.
