About Sam
I have been working as a professional tutor for the past two years in South London since completing a master's degree in Creative Writing and Literature and look forward to meeting new students and challenges in Manchester.
In my previous job I worked with both mixed-ability groups and individuals, primarily at GCSE and beyond, including an empasis on 'gap-work,' managing the jump between GCSE and A-Level, or A-Level and university. My speciality is English Language and Literature up to and including postgraduate study, incorporating both classic fiction, modern texts and theory.
Since completing my undergraduate degree I have also proof-read a number of essays and dissertations from students for whom English is a second language, and have extensive experience in editing fiction for those interested in the realm of creative writing. I can also recommend reading lists for those who are not studying to a set curriculum.

I am a Philosophy graduate with an MA in Creative Writing, currently tutoring and proofreading while writing my first novel.
Whether working on creative writing, academic essays or textual analysis, I believe in the importance of understanding systems and providing clear blueprints for progress. My first priority is to impart an understanding of what is expected at different levels of academic study, from GCSE or postgraduate. Once this foundation is established, I encourage my students to explore different methods to find what works best for them. My aim is to provide guidance throughout this process, identifying problems as they arise and adapting solutions to the individual.
Learning is not a one-size-fits all experience: whether tailoring an academic thesis, shaping a short story or excelling in a GCSE exam, success requires both knowledge of the conditions and investment in the outcome. My job is to provide the former and foster the latter.

Sam tutored me throughout both my GCSEs and A-Levels, teaching me english and then later philosophy as well. He was always massively friendly and engaging, with an extensive knowledge of each syllabus that I was being examined on. We covered so much, from close textual analysis to philosophical reasoning, that, in truth, I probably learned more from our sessions than in the classroom!
I'm looking forward to studying my degree in Literature at a good university, and it's in a large part thanks to Sam. I would recommend him to anyone.I was tutored by Sam whilst studying for an undergraduate degree in English Literature. I found him to be knowledgable about the requirements of my course and helpful when I got stuck with a set text or essay.
