About Chanelle
As a teacher I believe every student is capable of whatever they set their minds to, and that no matter what it is that drives them, it is of equal importance. Our job as teachers is a responsibility to instill in our students a sense of self-worth and a curiosity to follow their dreams while helping others along the way. I am also very interested in problem-based and inquiry-based learning. I believe we need a shift from teacher-centered learning to a more student-centered classroom where students are given ownership of their learning. Finally for this to happen, a safe, trusting, and universal learning environment needs to be established between the teacher and the student. Therefore, my number one goal as a teacher to both Middle and High school students is to develop a relationship with my students and to understand what makes them tick. I work hard to tailor my lesson plans to the needs and desires of my students and use universal learning strategies and engaging activities that work for each specific learning style.

I am a teacher who loves interacting and building relationships with my students. I have a passion for both numeracy and literacy and helping students gain those skills while understanding the content material at the same time. I am all about choice and flexibility when it comes to planning my lesson. I definitely think it is so important to get to know my students first: their hobbies, goals, likes, dislikes, fears and so on. Both English and Math involve discourse and open discussion, vulnerability, and humility. I always include easy to follow lectures with notes/slides, discussion, engaging activities to practice skills, and time for questions and feedback from my students. I have taught a range of grades from grade 3-12 and am very comfortable with the BC curriculum. I have also taught Social Justice and Psychology.
