About Kate
Hi, I’m Kate, your Accounting & Economics Tutor!
With over six years of tutoring experience, I know firsthand how challenging accounting and economics can feel at times — but I also know that with the right support, anyone can master them. My sessions are all about breaking down tricky concepts into clear, relatable explanations that help you build real understanding and confidence.
I’m currently in my third year of a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting, Taxation, and Economics) at the University of Canterbury, where I also work part-time as a university tutor for first-year business students.
I’ve received multiple awards and scholarships for my contribution to education and leadership, including being Co-President of the UC Accounting Society and a Co-Founder of Beta Alpha Psi Canterbury.
Last summer, I interned at Deloitte in their Tax & Business Advisory team, where I gained valuable insight into the real-world applications of accounting and economics, knowledge I bring directly into my tutoring.

My Teaching Methodology
Every student learns differently, so my approach is completely personalised. I don’t just teach you the content; I teach you how to learn it in a way that makes sense to you. My goal is to turn confusion into clarity and help you feel genuinely confident in your understanding of accounting and economics.
I focus on three key principles:
Clarity before complexity – We start by breaking big ideas into simple, digestible pieces before diving into exam-style questions.
Active learning – You’ll explain concepts back to me, work through real examples, and practise applying ideas rather than memorising them.
Confidence building – I create a supportive environment where mistakes are part of the process, not something to fear. My students often tell me they feel more relaxed, motivated, and capable after just a few lessons.

A typical session blends structure with flexibility, every lesson is tailored to your goals.

Check-in & goal setting: We talk about what you want to focus on and how you’ve been finding the material.
Concept breakdown: I explain the key ideas in a clear, step-by-step way using simple examples that make sense to you.
Guided practice: We work through questions together, discussing your reasoning and identifying any gaps.
Independent application: You’ll have a go at a problem yourself while I give feedback and strategies for improvement.
Wrap-up & action plan: We summarise the key takeaways and set small, achievable goals for next time.
