About Thendo
I have a Master of Science degree and four (4) years of online tutoring experience. I am currently doing a Ph.D. in Environmental Sciences. Helping others makes me feel good and it gives me a sense of purpose. I love helping students identify problems and help them find solutions. It completes me to see others succeed.

I start with topics the students are comfortable with and move gradually toward more complex areas as their confidence builds. I use questions and examples to check their understanding continually. I prefer to give the lessons in English, I also have moderate proficiency in other languages such as Afrikaans, isiZulu, isiXhosa, Sepedi, and Tshivenda. At the start of each lesson, I ask the student how they're feeling, like if they're tired or excited about something going on in their life. This helps me better prepare for any distractions. I then ask if they had any wins since we last met. I find that starting with this positivity helps both of us focus on the good, which often makes for a more productive session. I then go over the agenda for the session so that they know what to expect. I also typically give them a brief quiz to go over the previous sessions' topics and see what they remember or where they may need additional work. After the review, I try to connect how those previous topics relate to what we're going over in the current session. I then go through the lesson, Finally, I leave at least ten minutes at the end of the session for any additional questions about the lesson. My lessons are mainly aimed at University students preferably first-year biology students. I also have a good knowledge of Chemistry, Microbiology, and Biochemistry.
