Every learner deserves a guide who truly understands the mechanics of reading and how to make text accessible, whether they are taking their first steps in phonics or navigating dense high school literature.
With a Master's degree, advanced graduate coursework from Arizona State University and Northern Arizona University, and state teaching credentials, my approach is rooted in deep professional expertise. As a former Title I School Improvement Specialist and credentialed educator, I’ve spent years specializing in targeted reading intervention and structured literacy, utilizing evidence-based frameworks like UFLI Phonics and multi-sensory techniques to ensure struggling readers build real, lasting fluency.
Beyond foundational decoding, I work extensively with older students—including high schoolers who struggle with complex texts and need a supportive, non-judgmental space to catch up and thrive. Being bilingual in English and Spanish also allows me to connect with and support diverse learners and their families. My goal is always to move students past mere memorization so they gain the confidence and independent skills they need to succeed across every academic subject.

My instruction is rooted in systematic, research-backed frameworks—specifically utilizing structured phonics like UFLI alongside multi-sensory techniques. Rather than just memorizing words, students learn how to master letter-sound correspondences, decoding, and fluency. I also integrate positive social-emotional reinforcement and daily encouragement to keep students motivated and engaged.
A typical 60-minute session moves through a clear, supportive progression designed to maximize retention:
Warm-Up & Mindset: We begin with positive affirmations and a quick review of previously mastered concepts to build confidence.
Explicit Instruction: I introduce or target a specific phonics rule or decoding strategy using structured, interactive digital tools.
Guided Practice: We work collaboratively through reading exercises, word-building, and fluency drills tailored directly to the student's current reading level.
Independent Application & Wrap-Up: The student applies the new skill independently, and we close with a positive review of what they accomplished.
What sets me apart is my extensive background as a credentialed educator, Master’s-level training, and years of experience as a Title I School Improvement Specialist and reading interventionist. Unlike general homework helpers, I specialize in identifying the root causes of reading struggles and creating personalized pathways to overcome them.
