For my lessons I find key target areas to improve on through some discussion or some diagnostic questions, then using this information I plan a schedule of topics for the course of the lessons.
My lessons always start with a brief discussion of the topic of interest, usually consisting of a definition, a learning objective and discussing how much the student already knows about the subject. I then begin with a starter to engage the student to introduce the topic in an interesting way.
The lesson is spent working on relevant questions and applying this information, starting with easy questions to help gain confidence and building up to more challenging questions. I am a positive tutor and use praise often as I believe positive feedback is necessary to encourage learning, so I will praise them when they do well and encourage them to try again if they don't do as well.
