My teaching methodology follows my unique 4 step process to understanding.
1) Create a context practically to explain why we are learning the issue at hand. We will use relatable examples and bring it closer to home as much as possible to ensure the student fully grasps the problem statement and recognized the need to solve the problem at hand.
2) We go to the textbook or relevant legislation to see the link between the problem identified in section 1 and the principal we are learning.
3) We consolidate the understanding obtained in our own words and apply it to more examples to esure we truly understand the principal.
4) Once we have mastered the principal to different examples, we practice exam type question to ensure we are able to pick up the issue and answer questions that integrate the concept learned with other concepts. At this stage we also focus on exam technique to learn how to score easy marks, finish the paper on time (through attempting questions under exam conditions) and how to ensure we excel.
5) We summarize our learning including any mistakes we made in step 4, while attempting questions, to ensure we master the concept. We always ensure we know why we are doing something or got something wrong. It is not enough to simply know the how only.
6) I encourage the student to teach someone else who may not be familiar with the concept to see if they can make them understand. Once they are able to explain the concept simply to someone who has no background of the issue, they would have mastered the principal.
