About Helen

I began studying music at the age of 5 and knew early on that I wanted it to be my lifelong pursuit. Over the years, I have participated in numerous music competitions and graduated with honors from both college and conservatory. I have experience working in a philharmonic orchestra and currently perform with the New York Mandolin Orchestra.

I teach both children and adults, creating personalized lessons tailored to each student’s unique needs and goals. My passion for music and dedication to my students ensures a positive, supportive learning environment.

About the lesson

My teaching approach is personalized to each student’s goals. I combine classical techniques with exercises suited to their level, focusing on technique, rhythm, and musicality.

Lesson Structure:

• Warm-up: Technical exercises for finger strength.
• Main Focus: Work on pieces, sight-reading, or technique.
• Theory: Integrated into lessons for better understanding.
• Wrap-up: Review and set goals for the next lesson.

I teach students of all levels, whether you’re a beginner or preparing for exams. My goal is to make learning both fun and rewarding!

He understands material quickly and applies guidance immediately, which makes the learning process smooth and productive. His background with other instruments clearly supports his technique and helps him feel comfortable on the mandolin from the very beginning. It was a pleasure to start working with him, and I’m excited to see how he progresses!

Perfect! Very patient! I am an experienced musician with informal music theory taught to me. I wanted to take lessons to improve my mandolin and learn properly. Helen was very patient with me as I kept wanting to jump the gun. But she made sure I sat with it and learned properly.

Saul did an amazing job! In just one lesson, we covered a scale, learned a song by heart, and practiced the chords for it. We also took time to explore some music theory. I’m truly impressed — everything is coming together quickly and naturally. Since Saul already plays other instruments, he’s picking up the mandolin and music theory incredibly fast!
