• When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

  I found the possibility of machines thinking like humans to be quite fascinating which is why I developed an interest in Artificial Intelligence during my formative years in college when I was studying computer science. Trying to advance my career as a professional, I realized the desire to give knowledge in the process of becoming an AI Consultant, Developer, and Lecturer. People like me feeling it is a natural continuation of my academic work where I am given the chance to share some of my knowledge with other people and motivate them to become the best at one of the most vibrant disciplines of our era.

• Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

  My area of expertise is Artificial Intelligence, Python Programming, Machine Learning, and Deep Learning. The topics that I enjoy most include neural networks, natural languages processing, ethical AI, and practical applications of AI in various fields such as cybersecurity, healthcare, and finances. I also like sharing basic information because it creates critical thinking to reach higher levels of problem solving. The thing that I would rather avoid--if it had to be--it would be that which would be too theoretical and would not have the linkages with the real world, because I am a firm believer that it should be applied.

• Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

  Yes, the good thing is that I have had some great mentors, both in academia and the technological field. My university professor of AI was one of my first inspirations who constantly told me to be curious, rather than trying to memorize. The fact that she is passionate about teaching and a very powerful presence as a woman in tech made me decide to choose the same route and actively lead, mentor, and contribute to the next generation of AI professionals to grow.

• What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

  An effective tutor should be clear in his explanation, flexible, patient, versed with the subject, and an emotionally intelligent person. However, most importantly I feel a tutor must instill the urge to know more and come out of the text book. The best tutor does not only answer the students but enables them to learn to ask the correct questions.

• Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

  When I had been working on one of my AI development projects, one of the students I collaborated with was not able to comprehend the concept of the backpropagation in a neural network. I asked them to imagine a factory assembly line, with workers who check their work, and the weight of products going through the assembly line as the velocity of the conveyor- finally they got the hang of it. This experience was the first reminder of the necessity of meeting students at their level and using their understandable terms to introduce the concepts.

• What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

  AI is a constantly developing discipline, so keeping yourself in touch with the current developments, models, and ethical issues is a task and a duty. I am a tech woman as well, and I have experienced the problem of representation, and I have turned that into personal incentive to mentor more female students and ensure that AI ecosystem is such that it encourages inclusivity.

• Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

  My interest in AI and my desire to spread the concept to as wide an audience as possible are great indeed. I also enjoy mentoring students and professionals (particularly on those underrepresented by the field) in helping them gain a foothold in AI and tech. This is because my profession of Lecturer and AI Consultant position permits me to close the divide between the education and industry, which is very gratifying.

• What makes you a Superprof ?

  The thing that qualifies me as a Superprof is the combination of industry experience, academic achievement, and human-centered approach of teaching. I have more than 10 years of practical experience in AI development and consulting, which I can use in the classroom and tutoring sessions. Not only a tutor: I am a mentor, motivator and a long-life learner taking responsibility to ensure that no more education in AI can be empowering, ethical, and engaging.
