About Fatimah
I'm Fatimah, I am 19 years old. I never used to like Maths as it was something I found hard to understand. However, over time I learnt to enjoy it as I began to understand it. Now, it is one of my favourite subjects and I would like to use this to help students to improve and show them it is possible to get better at something!

I myself had a tutor in Primary school and one in my final years of Secondary school. I was able to identify what worked with me and what didn’t and found what I thought the tutor did well and how they could approach things differently for example, using visual learning. I found that sometimes things could be overwhelming when taking a lot of information in at once so drawing out a problem to break things down step by step and to make it as simple as possible and easier to understand. I would give them questions to help solidify their understanding. I will ask the student for an honest reflection on how they feel about each area of the topic. Once I’ve found they have made great progress and have grasped a good understanding of the topic. I will provide exam style questions on surds to test their level of understanding.
The things I would consider when planning a lesson for a student would be to have clear learning objectives and then outline what the steps are to achieve each learning objective. I will then prepare the materials needed that will help me achieve each learning goal. I will take into account how the student best learns and cater my teaching based on the student. I will try to find what the student enjoys and what they are interested so I can incorporate these into my questions/examples to help keep them engaged. I will also include starter activities to test their understanding of a topic for example, a short game, a quiz, questions based on the previous lesson etc. I will use an online whiteboard so the student is able to see me going through questions step by step and if the student can have their own whiteboard, I am able to see their working out and can be able to assist them when necessary.
