About Alan
I am a classic left-brain-right-brain person -- my career outside of tutoring has involved years of writing fiction for television, theatre and radio. But one of my first loves was always mathematics, and science is something I've always written about in my work -- my teaching of those subjects still gives me great pleasure.
I have a passion for showing students not just what the exam asks but why a subject is important and where it sits in the wider world. I've guided countless students through their GCSE and A-Level exams, and strive to make lessons an enjoyable experience.

I have over 10 years experience working with students in both one-to-one and classroom settings -- making sure that the student has an understanding of the foundations of the subject. Rote learning is much, much harder than understanding the logical steps that underpin what the student is learning. This approach also allows me to gauge the student's level, while tailoring my style to get the best from them.
I have worked doing exam prep with groups in dozens of schools across London, as well as working one-on-one with countless students in their homes.
I provide tutoring in:
- GCSE Maths
- GCSE Science
- GCSE English
- A-Level Maths
I am also a highly experienced writer so can advise students on all aspects of creative writing, including at university level (I was a lecturer in creative writing for 5 years).
My session times vary, minimum 1 hour.
