About Marissa
Dedicated mathematics tutor with experience mentoring pupils in both mathematics and physics . As a physics undergraduate who has achieved top grades throughout education, I am equipped with a strong mathematical background, and am eager to help students of all levels to improve their understanding. My goal is to foster an enjoyment for the subject, and instil confidence in the student’s ability to problem solve, a skill which will stay with them regardless of whether they elect to pursue maths further.
Maths is a truly wonderful subject to teach, seeing students finally grasping concepts is a hugely rewarding experience that brings unrivalled satisfaction.
I have teaching experience in classroom and one-to-one settings, and have a current enhanced DBS check.

My lessons can be tailored to the needs of individual pupils, whilst following a general structure. First, I can offer a short free introductory session in which any key areas of focus and end goals can be outlined and a plan for the first lesson can be prepared. Typical lessons are an hour in length. Each lesson, there will be an initial component of teaching or recapping a concept. This will involve going through worked examples and discussing method and reasoning behind the approach. Next, there will be opportunities for the student to attempt their own questions, with further discussion. This can very much be done at the pupil's own pace. I am happy to make extension questions available for those who are interested. At the end of sessions, I will usually set a short homework task for the student to complete between lessons in order to cement understanding. These will be marked and returned, with opportunities to discuss questions in the next lesson. All my sessions aim to encourage students and build confidence in their mathematical abilities, guiding them to achieve the best they can.
All of my lessons are exclusively online.
