About Gonçalo
I study Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics at A-Level, and I am looking to study Mathematics at the university of Warwick this coming October.
I have a passion for making maths accessible to anyone, and so I have been tutoring maths at various different levels from year 1 to 13.

I tend to plan my lessons with a starter activity which provides simple exercises which allow the student to smoothly run into a topic which they would be uncomfortable with. Then I show them how to answer a specific type of question. And then once I have made sure they have a significant amount of understanding for the method I try to explain to them why the method works, so that they can understand what they are doing rather than simply learning a method.
Then I give the student exam style questions on the topic we have just covered and watch them do each question and if after trying a full question they are unsuccessful, together we try to pinpoint the root of the mistake, and then fix it. Because I am a strong believer that students need to be allowed to make mistakes in order to learn from them, because if they are corrected right before they make a mistake, they will never realise what they did wrong.
Lastly, I provide them with some recommended but not mandatory homework which they are advised to do in order to retain the new topic better, this homework can be brought on the next lesson in case they have questions on it.
