I’m Jake — a qualified and experienced Biology teacher with over a decade of classroom and tutoring experience at GCSE and A level. I’ve taught in grammar, independent, and comprehensive schools, helping students of all abilities achieve and often exceed their target grades. My lessons are clear, structured, and supportive, blending strong subject knowledge with proven exam techniques. I focus on making complex ideas simple, building confidence, and equipping students with the tools they need to succeed in both OCR and AQA Biology. My breadth and depth of teaching experience has instilled into me the importance of tailoring teaching and learning to the needs of each individual. I start by understanding your goals, current attainment, and areas that need strengthening. From there, we create a personalised plan that focuses on building confidence, understanding, and strong exam technique to secure the marks needed to make the progress you desire. My lessons are interactive and application-based (instead of passive lecturing) and structured around bespoke exam-board style questions (following the style and structure of OCR and AQA with which I have experience writing for Secondary School assessment), with clear explanations, step-by-step reasoning, and incisive evaluation to identify and rectify strengths. As a qualified teacher with over 10 years of experience in sixth-form and independent schools, I bring a calm, supportive approach that helps students move beyond memorising facts to truly mastering Biology. Jake helped our daughter prepare for her Biology A levels to raise her grades from an A to a secure A* for the 2025 exams so that she could secure her target grade - the focus on practice and her exam technique was most useful for making this progress.
We found Jake in the months leading up to the A level biology exams, and he was very helpful in securing our sons confidence with the subejct matter and improving needed skills - he communicated readily and was flexible and understanding with his schedule to match ours.
