About Mark
I've spent more than 30 years working professionally in software engineering and technology, including roles as a Senior Software Engineer, Principal Software Engineer, Technical Lead, and Software Architect. Throughout my career, I've designed and developed complex software systems, solved difficult technical problems, and worked with and mentored engineers at many different experience levels.
One of the things I've enjoyed most throughout my career is helping others understand technology. I've mentored new engineers entering the profession, helped colleagues work through difficult technical problems, and explained complex concepts in ways that make them easier to understand and apply.
My background includes C++, C#, Java, object-oriented programming and design, software architecture, algorithms, debugging, Linux, APIs, distributed systems, cloud and container technologies, and many other areas of modern software development. I also have extensive experience with the broader engineering process—from understanding a problem and designing a solution to developing, testing, troubleshooting, and delivering working software.
I believe my greatest strength as a tutor is that I can combine the fundamentals students learn in school with decades of real-world experience. I understand that people learn differently, so I adjust how I explain something until we find the approach that makes sense to you.
Whether you're a middle school, high school or college student working through a programming course, an adult learning to code, or someone preparing for a career in software development, I'll bring patience, practical experience, and a genuine commitment to helping you understand the material and become more confident working with technology.

With 30+ years of real-world experience as a Senior/Principal Software Engineer and Software Architect, I bring practical experience to every lesson—not just textbook knowledge. I've spent much of my career mentoring and helping other engineers understand complex technical concepts, and I use that same approach with my students.
My lessons are personalized to you. We can work through class assignments and projects together, prepare for exams, review code, troubleshoot problems, strengthen fundamentals, or explore more advanced programming and software engineering concepts. I'll help you understand how to solve a problem, why the solution works, and how to approach similar problems on your own.
