About Ella

Ni Hao! Want to know more about China and the Chinese language than just Hollywood stereotypes and dumplings?

You need a tutor who brings the language to life. I'm Ella, an Enrichment Stream High School Student and fluent Mandarin speaker dedicated to helping primary and junior high students master Mandarin with clarity, confidence, and genuine enthusiasm.

Learning Chinese shouldn't feel like endless, repetitive character grinding or dull textbook drills. The real secret to mastering Mandarin is connecting authentic listening and speaking skills with structured grammar and correct pronunciation (Pinyin). On top of that, it is crucial that knowledge isn't learned solely from books, but through stories, culture, and history. In my lessons, I bring an authentic immersion into one of the world's five ancient civilizations.

Throughout my schooling, I’ve seen how easy it is for students to get discouraged when language teaching is dry or rigid—and how quickly they thrive when given interactive, practical ways to practice.

Navigating language learning requires a bridge between textbook knowledge and real-world fluency. Because I am currently navigating the NSW school curriculum myself—and have been recommended for Selective Placement—I understand how to make language learning engaging, approachable, and tailored to how young minds actually absorb information.

My goal as a tutor is to guarantee authentic pronunciation, natural vocabulary, and strong listening and speaking skills. I create a supportive, encouraging space where students feel comfortable opening up, making mistakes, and building real conversational and academic fluency. Whether your child is starting from scratch or looking to refine their speech and character writing, I bring a reliable, methodical approach to every lesson.

With the combined cooperation of the student, family, and tutor, developing true fluency becomes a certainty.

About My Approach & Teaching Methodology
My teaching philosophy centers on simplifying complex topics into manageable, logical ideas. Instead of forcing students to rely on rote memorization, I focus on connecting the "Why" behind a concept to the "How" of solving a problem.

As a 15-year-old, current student, I know firsthand which learning techniques actually stick and which ones lead to burnout. My sessions are interactive, encouraging students to actively explain concepts back to me so they build genuine confidence rather than passive understanding.

Lesson Structure & Duration
Lessons are standardly 45 to 60 minutes, tailored to fit the student's focus level and schedule. Every structured session follows a clear 4-part roadmap:

First 10 Minutes — Review & Active Recall: The student summarizes key points from the previous lesson in their own words and asks any lingering questions.

5 Minutes — Diagnostic Warm-Up: Quick practice questions on previous content to assess retention and identify gaps before moving forward.

25–35 Minutes — Content Delivery & Guided Practice: Breaking down new topics step-by-step using worked examples and structured notes, transitioning from guided help to independent problem-solving.

Final 5–10 Minutes — Check for Understanding & Q&A: A short end-of-lesson review quiz to solidify the day’s learning and set clear goals for next time.

Who My Lessons Are For
Target Audience: Primary school students (Years 3–6) and Junior High students (Years 7–8).

Focus Areas: Mathematics, Intermediate Japanese, Fluent Mandarin and general study/exam preparation skills (including NAPLAN and Selective High School entry prep).

Qualifications & Background
Current Academic Standing: Year 9 High School Student in the Enrichment stream (recommended for Selective Placement).
Current Academic Standing: Year 9 High School Student in the Enrichment Stream (Recommended for Selective Placement).

Informal Experience: Extensive experience providing peer tutoring and academic support to classmates and younger family members, assisting with homework, assignment structure, and exam preparation.

Legal Compliance: Under NSW law, tutors under the age of 18 are legally exempt from requiring a Working With Children Check (WWCC).

Relatable Perspective: Because I am currently navigating the NSW school curriculum myself, I understand exact assessment requirements, current syllabus expectations, and the pressure young students feel—allowing me to explain concepts in a way that feels approachable and stress-free.
