About Arsalan
I am a Research Scientist at UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology in central London, where I apply machine learning and artificial intelligence to real-world scientific and healthcare research.
I have been working in academia since completing my Master’s degree in Artificial Intelligence in 2011, with experience spanning university teaching, research, student supervision, programming and software development. I hold Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD qualifications in Computer Engineering and Artificial Intelligence from Sharif University of Technology, one of Iran’s leading universities.
Teaching has always been an important part of my career. I have taught and supported university students as well as younger students who wanted to develop their knowledge beyond the classroom. My experience both as a programmer in industry and as an academic has taught me how to explain complex ideas from different perspectives and, importantly, to remain patient when a student finds a subject difficult. I believe that a good teacher should understand how a student thinks rather than simply repeat the same explanation.
My own academic journey began with Iran’s highly competitive national university entrance examination, KonKoor. I ranked 633 nationally among more than 450,000 applicants and gained admission to Sharif University of Technology. This experience, followed by many years of research and teaching, has given me a strong appreciation of both academic excellence and the sustained effort required to achieve it.
Whether I am teaching Python, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence or Machine Learning, my aim is not simply to help students complete an exercise or pass an examination. I want them to develop the confidence and understanding that allow them to approach new problems independently.

My lessons focus on understanding rather than memorising. I first identify the student’s current level and any gaps in their knowledge, then build concepts step by step using clear explanations, practical examples and hands-on problem solving. For programming and machine learning, I encourage students to write, test and debug code themselves, while I guide them through the reasoning behind each decision.
A typical lesson lasts around 60–90 minutes and can include explanation of key concepts, worked examples, coding exercises, discussion of assignments or projects, and targeted practice in areas where the student needs more support.
I hold a PhD and a Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, specialising in artificial intelligence, and currently work as a Machine Learning Research Fellow at UCL. I have more than ten years of experience across university teaching, research, student supervision and applied technical work.
I teach Computer Science, Python, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and related subjects. Lessons are suitable for GCSE and A-Level students, university students at undergraduate or postgraduate level, and adult learners who want to strengthen their programming, data science or machine learning skills.
