About Mara
I come from Florence, Tuscany, but have lived in Scotland since 2014. I study Languages (German, Spanish and French) and Intercultural communication in Edinburgh. Teaching is something I am passionate about and I originally started with English, when I was still living in Italy. Then, since I am abroad I started teaching my mother language and it is a very rewarding job. Every student has a different approach to a new language; With music the tasks get a lot easier: analysing song lyrics can be fun, full of current information, and grammatical structures that one cannot easily find only in books. I try and teach Italian through music, as it is something that my students are more familiar with, and present different cultural aspects of Italian culture. As a student of foreign languages myself (Spanish, German and French), I most certainly know the struggles of learning a new language and how to overcome them with different methods. Of course, the genre of music can be discussed with me in the first lesson. However, this can also be done by reading books, magazines or newspaper articles, according to the student's interests and passions.
