About Anjana
I have been connected with Indian music since the age of four, when I began learning classical and light music from different teachers. Over the years, I continued to develop my musical knowledge and skills and went on to complete my graduation in Indian Vocal Music.
My teaching is focused on beginners and foundation-level learners of Hindustani Vocal Music. I offer personalized, structured lessons with individual attention, helping students develop a strong foundation in sur, swara, taal, alankars, voice development and basic ragas.
I believe in teaching with patience, discipline and encouragement, while creating a comfortable environment in which students can learn, ask questions and grow in confidence. My aim is to help each student develop a genuine understanding and enjoyment of music, at a pace suited to their individual level and goals.

My musical journey began at the age of four, when I started learning both classical and light music from different teachers. Over the years, this early interest grew into a deeper engagement with Indian music, eventually leading me to pursue and complete my graduation in Indian Vocal Music.
This long journey has given me a strong grounding in the fundamentals of music, while also teaching me the importance of patience, attentive listening, and recognizing that every student learns differently.
My approach to teaching Hindustani Vocal Music is personalized, encouraging and rooted in a strong understanding of the fundamentals. I believe that every voice is unique, and that learning music should be both disciplined and joyful.
I begin by understanding the student's musical background, interests, goals and level of experience. For beginners, we gradually develop a foundation in sur, swara, alankars, voice culture and taal, and as their confidence grows, explore basic ragas, simple alap and raga-based compositions.
For learners who already have some basic experience, lessons can be adapted to strengthen their fundamentals, improve voice quality and pitch, and develop greater musical understanding and expression.
My focus is on building a strong musical foundation, developing confidence and nurturing a genuine love for singing, rather than on advanced or highly specialized classical training.
A typical lesson may include:
* Vocal warm-ups and voice development
* Swara and pitch exercises
* Alankars and foundational exercises
* Introduction to and practice of basic ragas
* Simple alap and melodic exploration
* Learning compositions, bhajans or songs
* Taal and rhythmic understanding
* Guidance for practice between lessons
The exact structure varies according to the student's level, interests and goals. I encourage students to listen, understand and experience the music, rather than simply memorizing what they are taught.
What sets me apart:
I believe music should be learned with both discipline and freedom. Alongside developing technical skills, I encourage students to listen deeply, develop their own musical voice and gradually become more confident in expressing themselves.
My teaching is patient, supportive and structured. I want students to feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and learning at a pace that allows them to genuinely absorb the music.
My aim is to make Hindustani music accessible, enjoyable and meaningful, while respecting the discipline and beauty of its tradition.
