About Ikenna
Hello, I'm Ikenna, a UK based English tutor and law graduate.
English has always been my strongest subject. I achieved a grade 9 in GCSE English Language and went on to study Law at the University of Portsmouth, graduating with a 2:1. A law degree is built on close reading, careful analysis and persuasive writing, which are the same skills pupils need to succeed in English. I am now studying for my LLM at the University of Law.
I started tutoring in 2023 and have since delivered over 300 one to one online lessons through GoStudent, MyTutor and Varsity Tutors. I have taught pupils from Primary level through to GCSE, including 11+ English and verbal reasoning, KS3, and GCSE English Language and Literature.
What I enjoy most is the moment a pupil realises they can do something they thought was beyond them. Many of the pupils I work with are capable but lack confidence, or have never been shown exactly what examiners are looking for. I find out where the gaps are in the first lesson, then build a clear plan to close them, using model answers, guided practice and honest, specific feedback.
Alongside tutoring, I work as a Legal and Financial Wellbeing Advisor, where I explain complex information clearly and patiently every day. I bring that same approach to my lessons.

My approach
Every pupil is different, so I don't follow a one size fits all course. The first lesson is a relaxed assessment. I find out what your child finds difficult, how they learn best and what they are working towards. From there, I build a personalised plan and share it with parents.
My teaching is based on three steps: I show, we practise together, then the pupil works independently. I model skills live on a shared whiteboard, thinking aloud so pupils can see exactly how a strong answer is built. We then work through examples together before the pupil tries on their own, with support reduced gradually as confidence grows.
