About Sean
My students have won scholarships to Eton, Westminster, Harrow, Winchester, and other top schools in the UK. I am a senior Latin and Greek tutor, OCR and CIE A-Level examiner, and published author with over 30 years of experience.
I hold a BA from the University of York and a PhD from Middlesex University. I have written over 50 books, including Latin Reader for A-Level Students, Aeneid I with Prose Commentary, and Stories from Bede—texts now widely used in classical education.
I currently teach at a London college and advise on curriculum and assessment standards. My work is informed by years of examining real papers and helping students succeed under pressure. I hold an enhanced DBS and full safeguarding certification.

Lessons are structured around past papers, grammar drills, and original texts, adapted to the student’s level. I emphasise grammar, syntax, and translation fluency—from and into English—as essential to mastery.
My teaching is calm, rigorous, and based on a clear curriculum plan. I provide targeted revision, guided composition, and literary insight. Each lesson is focused—no generic worksheets, no wasted time.
I teach students worldwide via Zoom, including those in Hong Kong, Dubai, New York, and Switzerland. I offer a free 1-hour initial session to assess needs, review previous progress, and set goals.

Details
I specialise in scholarship-level Latin and Greek, including preparation for the Eton King’s Scholarship, Westminster Challenge, and Harrow 13+. I also offer tailored support for GCSE (OCR), A-Level (OCR/Cambridge), Oxbridge entry, and the AP Latin exam.
International students are welcome. I currently work with families in Hong Kong, Dubai, the US, and Europe.
I offer structured marking between lessons at no extra cost. Longer-term bookings are prioritised and discounted.
