About Christopher
I studied the Ancient Greek language for two years at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, and I teach weekly on the subject to students throughout the Chattanooga area of a variety of ages (from 13 to 64!). The curriculum I like to use is primarily focused on the Attic and Koine Greek dialects (Plato and the New Testament, for example), though I am also proficient in Homeric and Ionic Greek (Homer's epics and Herodotus' histories). Prior to teaching Greek, I spent two years tutoring English grammar, chemistry, and Spanish to high school and middle school students. My degree path is focused on English education in secondary school. I have not yet finished this degree, as I had to pause my schooling in order to put my wife through her degree, but as of December 2024, I am back to full-time enrollment!

Language is a messy and beautiful method of communication and expression, and it takes more work than you would think to be able to use it proficiently! Through intentional discussion and examination of literature and ancient languages, we can learn better methods of communication (rhetoric), new vocabulary (lexis), and see the beauty in the complexity of grammar (morphology).
My tutoring style tends to focus on Socratic discussion and group learning, though I also work one-on-one. If there is a specific area which is not understood, I will occasionally perform a more university-style lecture, but most of my teaching is done through group discussion and correction of what students produce. Generally, I am more of a facilitator of learning than a lecturer.
My lessons are for anyone from elementary school to university.
