About Jy
My name is Jy and I am a Korean–Australian bilingual tutor with natural fluency in both Korean and English. I lived, studied, and worked in both Korea and Australia and I bring real-world language experience as well as understanding of how learners approach a new language. I lived in Korea from 2014 to 2019 and returned again in 2024, while spending the rest of my years in Australia and spoke Korean for about 12 years now. Even though my first language is English and I graduated high school in Australia, I have a professional level of proficiency in Korean and have no difficulty communicating with native Korean speakers.

I teach clear understanding of Korean and natural communication that is more effective for real conversations rather than academic writing or reading. As a Korean–Australian bilingual, I mostly focus on teaching students how to read and speak Korean effectively, starting with understanding Hangul. After this, I teach basic vocabulary and sentence structures that help students fully grasp the foundation of Korean, along with grammar.
With my teaching, students will be able to read and speak Korean more naturally and also feel more connected to Korean culture.

What I appreciate most about Jy’s teaching style is how comfortable and supportive he makes the learning environment. He explains things clearly, adjusts to the student’s level, and always encourages natural conversation rather than forced memorization. This makes learning feel engaging instead of stressful.
I met him in Korea, and he was super nice. He was so good at Korean that I could honestly say he sounded native. He’s interested in many different topics and is proficient in both Korean and English, speaking comfortably and professionally in Korean without any awkwardness.
