About Gillian
Greetings parents and KG students. My name is Ms. Gillian. I have had the joy to teach students for 34 years, and most of those years have been teaching Kindergarten students. I am from South Africa and I grew up in a town with a very looooong name: Pietermaritzburg!!! I have also taught and lived with my family and two cats in Abu Dhabi, UAE. I now live in Calgary, Canada with my family and my two Arabian Mau cats named Millie and Hugo, who are very loud when they meow. I have come from the blazing hot desert to live here in Canada where there is lots of snow and very cold temperatures. What a difference and what an adventure!

My teaching style is relaxed, but fun and busy for Kindergarten students. I would like to pass on my great love of sharing stories, poems and songs while incorporating a variety of methods into my teaching hour which encourages English comprehension - the understanding of what the story, poem or song is about.
This hour spent with your child, once a week from 9-10am on Google Meets, will include hands-on activities, games, videos, props, flashcards, a little literacy and numeracy, with a little art added in.
What will the lessons look like:
Meet and Greet
Story time.
Discussion and comprehension time.
Students complete a hands on activity incorporating the story theme.
Brain Break
Time to say thank you and good bye until we meet again..
Each week, I will let parents know what stationery and equipment will be needed for the following week's lesson.
