I believe that the most important part of learning a subject is to understand the subject. To achieve this, I like to make sure that the student has a strong understanding of the fundamentals. Once a student has this understanding, they are able to rely on their own reasoning in more difficult topics, and they will find these topics easier to learn.
Something that I have learnt is that no person can succeed without a lot of practice. For this reason, I like to work through a lot of Maths/Physics problems with my students. This allows them to put the skills that they've learnt to the test. Additionally, it allows me to pick up on what the students find difficult. I can then help them work on their weaknesses.
A lesson will usually start with 5-10 minutes of revision from the previous lesson and discussion of difficulties that the student is facing. This is followed by teaching of any new concepts. Once teaching has finished, the rest of the lesson will involve solving practice questions and problems.
