About Karin
Karin is an internationally experienced professional violinist and teacher with over 30 years of performance and pedagogical expertise. Her teaching is informed by a deep and broad professional career, combining classical excellence with eclectic training across a wide range of musical styles and traditions from around the world.
Professional Leadership & Appointments
Karin was Acting Head of Strings at Ballarat Clarendon College and Guest Concertmaster of the Ballarat Symphony Orchestra in 2023. She runs a highly regarded private studio in Ballarat East and performs regularly throughout the region with leading local musicians.
Teaching, Mentoring & Professional Development
Karin has delivered tuition, masterclasses, workshops, and professional development nationally and internationally. She has adjudicated in London, Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, Geraldton, Bunbury (WA), Thailand, and for AUSTA QLD in Bundaberg.
She has served as President and committee member of the Australian String Association Western Australia (AUSTAWA), committee member of AUSTA QLD, and is a qualified member of the WA Music Teachers Association. Karin is also a former examiner for the Australian Music Examinations Board (WA).
Her teaching career began at Scotch College Melbourne, Firbank Grammar School, and Haileybury, followed by appointments at leading private schools and a long-established private studio in Kew. She has also tutored with the Melbourne Youth Orchestra and the WA Youth Orchestra.
Student Outcomes & Educational Philosophy
Karin specializes in nurturing high-quality, motivated students across all ages and stages, with a strong focus on advanced technique, musical depth, performance confidence, and professional pathways. Many of her former students now teach, perform, and work professionally in Australia and internationally.
She is deeply committed to mentoring emerging musicians and supporting fellow teachers through advanced pedagogical practice and professional guidance.
Performance Career
Karin performs as a freelance acoustic and electric violinist, blending classical training with blues, gypsy jazz, folk, and contemporary styles. Her career spans orchestras, bands, trios, jazz ensembles, and chamber groups.
She has shared the stage with Eric Clapton, Henry Mancini, Dizzy Gillespie, Larry Adler, and Sinéad O’Connor, and has worked with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC Concert Orchestra, and the West Australian Symphony Orchestra. Her recording and performance credits include major films such as Licence to Kill and Mad Max 1 & 2, as well as television appearances on Young Talent Time and The Daryl Somers Show. She began her professional career in Melbourne with the Brian May Orchestra and the ABC Melbourne Showband, performing in recordings, films, television, and leading roles in West End musicals from an early age.
