About Tom
I'm a jazz pianist and music teacher based in Bristol, with a 1st Class Honours (BA) in Jazz Piano (Leeds College of Music) and an MA in Composition for Film and TV (Bristol University). I play regularly with my own jazz trio across the UK and have been giving piano lessons for the last four years. I love sharing what I've learnt with people of all ages and am keen to inspire as many people as possible to play jazz! I've taught at the Yamaha Jazz School in Falmouth and at the Dordogne Jazz Summer School, giving one-to one lessons and workshops to larger groups. In Feb-March this year, I was employed by the Bristol Jazz & Blues Festival to provide Jazz/Swing workshops in over 30 Primary Schools in Bristol and South Gloucestershire, which was fun and LOUD! I also provide teaching in Composition/arranging for individuals. I'm equipped with a car for students who live further afield. I teach one-one lessons in Jazz Piano and Improvisation. I like to tailor my lessons according to the individual, I use exercises and teaching materials that I've developed over the years as well as the standard ABRSM Jazz Grades if requested. I also provide sheet music with examples as well as video and audio examples for students who prefer playing by ear.
