About Marshal
I graduated from Yale with a Bachelor's in History and hold a certificate in Jazz Piano and Songwriting from the highly regarded Dick Grove School of Music. In addition to teaching music to students of all ages and levels for over 10 years, I have performed with Jazz and R&B ensembles in diverse Bay Area venues, including the Chevron and SF Filipino Jazz Festivals.

My teaching style is flexible and democratic. Though I always prepare a lesson plan for each student, I find it to be more of a starting point to design lessons that tailor to students' evolving talents. My students and I collaborate when selecting songs and lesson material to review for homework, as well as the techniques that help them best express their unique musical selves. This way lessons become tailored to student's unique skill levels, preferred learning styles, and musical preferences.
I'm an easy-going and fun teacher, so students feel comfortable stepping outside of their comfort zone. I always make it clear to my students that our environment is an error and judgment-free zone. Missed notes and rhythms are a part of the learning process.
